Why do you only focus on business posts?

I see so much happening in Facebook and the BIGGEST element is that the majority of business owners are only focusing on doing business posts.  I would love to know why?  Is it bringing you new clients on a regular basis?  Is it showcasing you as the expert in your field?  Is it providing value to your potential clients?

Now, this is just my personal thoughts and my experience, as I have been working Facebook for 10 years now for business.  Over these last 10 years, I have focused on providing tips, ideas, suggestions, motivation, inspiration, asking questions, building relationships and of course, incorporating my business posts.  This has allowed me to build my network, showcase myself as the expert in my field and in turn, increased my referrals.

Let me give you an example of how this really showed me that I have been doing something right all these years 😉

I recently added a ground-floor MLM business to my life (when lia sophia shut down, I was ultimately still trying to find something that would get me excited again about this industry and lo and behold, it is wine lol).  To date, I have done 4 posts on my personal timeline (one was a live video) about my excitement with this new business, my decision as to why and of course some details.  Within these 4 posts, guess what happened??  I had a total of 104 people ask for information about this!!  I did not have to private message anyone cold, I did not have to send out any emails….I don’t even have a business page created at this point!  This showed me that, YES what I have been doing on Facebook, the network I have been building,  was because of selling ME!!

It was not about constantly promoting my business in every group, of “cold” messaging people, of not interacting with others…..it was about wanting to truly get to know people, to learn from people, to provide them value, to help them, to encourage them, it was about selling who I was as a person.

So before you do that next business post, before you send a message to someone you don’t even know, to try and recruit or get them to buy your product, think about how you can focus on selling YOU first!!

Safety for your children

The world of Social Media is only going to get bigger and when it comes to our children, we need to take some extra precautions on how they are using these different sites.

I know many parents don’t even realize their children are using different sites and were not involved when their accounts were being set up.  I believe, as parents, we need to make sure that our children are protected BUT also help to make their privacy settings safe for them.

I am going to focus on Facebook BUT I want you to take the same concept for any other Social Media sites your child is using.  I will make some additional points, further down, in regards to other sites.

P.S.  My suggestions are based on the computer version of Facebook, not the App, however, these changes will affect the App version.

The great thing about Facebook, is they do have privacy settings that you can go through with your children and set them properly.  I find the best way to understand what is being seen by the public is to view our profiles in that same environment.

  1. Go to your personal profile/timeline
  2. Click on the 3 dots just under the cover photo
  3. Choose the option “view as”
  4. This view will show you how your profile is shown in the public eye
  5. You want to go through/scroll and determine what needs to be fixed in regards to what you do NOT want the public to see

view as.png

Your next step will be to go through all the “settings” that Facebook has put into place for.  When you are your “home” tab, click the drop down arrow and go to “settings”.  Take the time to go through each tab and read to see what the option is and determine how you want it applied to your account.

Another KEY point to take note of, is that when new profile pictures are uploaded, they are automatically set to “public” therefore, you need to make sure to change that privacy to “friends” after you have uploaded it.  The reason being, is that when you change that picture again, the old ones will remain public and available for people to steal (this can lead to fake profiles).

If you find that when you are viewing your profile in the public view and there are elements you are not sure how to fix, just send me a message and I will help you.

I would also like to encourage you to remind your children that if they receive a friend request from someone they don’t know (even if it is a person of the same age or close to), to have you check that person’s profile before accepting.  Use your judgment on what you see on that profile, click on the different tabs you see visible, scroll through their timeline, and go with your gut.

Other Social Media sites:

  • Instagram and Twitter have privacy settings available to you, so you can take the steps and go through these with your children and make sure they are set up properly
  • The majority of the kids are using Snapchat, so I found this great article that can teach you about the privacy side of things.  CLICK HERE!

It is so IMPORTANT that we make sure our children are safe as this world is only going to get bigger.  Take the extra time to go through all the sites they are using and educate yourself on the security side of things.  There are tons of articles available in Google that can help you, embrace them.

More than just Facebook

I wish I could tell you that you only need to work Facebook to build your business, but the reality is that so much has changed in the last 8 years, that we are being bombarded with businesses on Facebook.  I have been working Facebook for probably 10 years now and way back when, it was much easier for us business owners to build and create a client base.  Now, I am not saying you can’t do it, BUT it will take you consistency, dedication, providing value, to build in the Facebook world, competition is high.

So what can you do?

There are many additional elements that can help you to build your presence on Facebook, here are just a few suggestions:

  • Blogging
  • Networking in person
  • Newsletters
  • TV Appearances
  • Magazine articles
  • Speaking events

By incorporating these different elements, you will see a growth on your Facebook.  You will start to showcase yourself as the expert in your field.  Even for those in Direct Sales/MLM businesses, you can brand yourself, create content that focuses around what you are good at and then bring your product/services into play.

My favourite has to be the networking.  I love attending a variety of events that allow me to learn, to socialize, to get my message out there.  I believe that if I have made an impact, then you will find me on Facebook, whether it is my personal profile or my business page.

Start putting a plan together about how you are going to sell YOU, how you are going to create a presence.  Make a list of your best qualities, what value you can offer and incorporate that into your plan.  Get out and do speaking engagements (not to sell your product/service but to teach others).  Start writing a blog and reach out to others and offer to be a guest blogger for them.

Don’t get frustrated with the world of Facebook, you can still build BUT add more pieces to the puzzle.  Plan your monthly calendar to how you are going to implement the different elements that will help you to create more of a presence on Facebook.

GUEST BLOGGER: Not everyone will want you to SUCCEED By Vanessa Dewsbury

We all hope for support and encouragement from our friends and family when we venture off on a journey of turning our dreams into reality, but the unfortunate truth is, not everyone will want you to succeed…and why is that?

There are some people who are triggered by the success of others because it makes them question their own life.  When someone sees you where they want to be or where they think they “should be,” it can create feelings of jealousy and resentment, and some people operate in competitive or comparative mode.  They either view you as competition so they are not supportive of your success or they compare themselves to others and if they perceive you are “doing better” than they are, they lack offering you any kind of encouragement.  And some of your friends or family don’t want you to succeed because they fear you may drastically change and leave them behind.

You may even find and have personally experienced someone trying to taint your character and reputation to others.  They talk bad about you behind your back in hopes that others will view you in a negative light.  However, usually in that situation it only makes the person who spoke badly of you, look bad.

Entrepreneurs are naturally driven, creative, rebellious and they tend to not like to follow the rules, or the crowds and this can actually be very off-putting for some.  If one is conditioned to believe that you have to do things by the book, then they will have a hard time accepting your choices and may view you as doing it all ‘wrong.’

But the thing is, we are all on our own journey of truth, growth, self development, and most everyone desires successful relationships, careers, health and so on but not everyone will arrive there at the same time.  We are all on different parts of the path just trying to do the best we can and maybe we will all arrive to where we want to be or maybe not all of us will.

How do you find you respond when you hear about the success of others?  Do you feel happy for them, do you encourage and congratulate them or do you feel resentful, jealous or hostile?

If you find your reaction is negative in nature, ask yourself why you’re feeling this way, explore your thoughts because deep down, they have nothing really to do with the other person, your reaction is coming from a place that might need a little bit of self reflection and healing.   And that’s okay, acknowledging and taking responsibility for your feelings can be the key to your own success.  If you find you are having difficulties in certain areas of your life, reach out and ask for help from others, surround yourself with the people you want to be like and most importantly, believe and trust in yourself that you can too achieve the success you desire.

If you are someone who praises, supports and gets excited when others succeed, then good for you, keep doing what you’re doing.

At the end of day we aren’t here to please others, we are here to enjoy, explore, create and live a life of happiness and bliss, and we are all worthy of that.  Don’t let the jealousy or non-approval of others deter you off your path, just keep moving, keep creating and keep believing in yourself, and in your dreams.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

GUEST BLOGGER: Fuel the Body By: Haven Kramer

As small business owners, our lives can get very busy. From running our businesses to making time for our families. That is why it is important for us to fuel our bodies with the right amount of nutrients to keep our energy up in relation to the amount of activity we do throughout the day. This article talks about ways to fuel the body to keep our energy up as small business owners so we can perform our best. To fuel our bodies, a combination of exercise and the right nutrition is required.

Exercise is needed so we can train our body to handle the amount of physical activity we do. That should be one of the main reasons why we exercise. With exercise, we strengthen our bodies muscularly and our cardiovascular system. This in turn allows our body to adapt to our busy lifestyle so we have enough energy throughout the day. If we do not exercise, our bodies may not be able to handle the physical stress that being a business owner has.

In correlation with exercise, nutrition is just as important. Without proper nutrition, our bodies will not be able to recover from all the physical activity business owners do in a day. The number of calories and nutrients we need differs from person to person. One person may need X amount of calories and nutrients while another person will need Y amount of calories and nutrients. In a previous blog of mine called Diet vs Diet, I talked about how the majority our diet needs to be healthy meals if we want to become healthy individuals. The same applies to business owners. With business owners, it is important for us to eat small portioned meals more frequently than having big meals less often. This will help ensure us that we have enough energy in the day.

The combination of exercise and proper diet is key for any person who owns a business. As said before, exercise will strengthen our body so we can do our activities with ease. Our diet will ensure us that we have enough energy to do those activities. Doing both will allow us to be successful business owners. If  you ask me, exercise and proper nutrition is the only way to fuel the body.

I am sitting here in front of the computer trying to think about what I can write today and I have to admit, for once, my mind is not functioning lol

Have you ever been in that situation? I am constantly providing tips, ideas, suggestions, challenges through my Facebook Business Page, my Groups that I manage, work for my clients, my newsletter and of course my Blog. I think sometimes, it just isn’t there lol

Building our businesses is a constant cycle of doing a variety of things, that eventually we have to hit a wall (but just for a day, right?). Is it possible that our minds can keep generating new ideas/content? Maybe…..but sometimes we have to look to others to get some more ideas. Reaching out to our friends, our business peers, our clients, to find the inspiration for what they want to learn about.
Sooooooo….I am reaching out, here is the post I just did, at this moment of writing this

So my message today is that it is okay to not have your mind functioning at all times because you can reach out and get inspiration from others 🙂

GUEST BLOG: Are You on Top of Your Time?

People use many types of calendars to keep their lives on schedule. Whether you use paper or an electronic calendar or an app, it is important to stay on top of it. There are several ways you can make sure you do not miss an appointment and schedule items in a time sensitive way.

Ways to be one step ahead of the next meeting:

image 1

When working with a calendar, it is best to make it part of your morning and end of day routine. In the morning before starting your day check your calendar to see what your day looks like. See if you have to reprioritize something or add more time to a certain meeting. Life happens and not everything we schedule is cut in stone. At the end of your day look over your day and make any important notes from the day’s activities that will help in the future. It is best to look at the next day’s schedule to know what is waiting for you in the morning, have a mindset about what your next day looks like.

image 2

When scheduling your time it is important to have all activities matching your goals and values. I have come up with a 4 step process to manage your time more effectively.

T – To do list. Write out a detailed list with all activities that need to get done in the next while.

I – Itemize each activity. 1 is for items that need to get done in the next day or two. 2 is for those that need to get done in the next week or so. 3 is for items you may be able to delegate, hold off on for a bit, not sure if it is matching your goals and values and need to revisit it.

M – Measure how long each task will take. If some tasks are large you may need to break it down into smaller tasks. To be on the safe side always add 10 minutes to a longer task to assure you will have enough time.

E – Execute on a daily basis. You now have a prioritized list of tasks that need to get done and a time length associated with it. It is now time to schedule these tasks in your calendar. You will be able to get your tasks completed in a timely manner and work toward your goals on a daily basis.

The key to this process is scheduling items into your calendar; if you don’t then you have a list of tasks you need to work on “when you find the time to”. Scheduling your tasks keep you accountable to your goals.

Using paper or an electronic calendar is each person’s preference. There are positives to each method. I find with a paper agenda you can purchase it with a platform that makes sense to your business. Some people like to see one day at a time and allowing more room to write in details for each task. Others like to see their week at a glance so it makes scheduling appointments easier for them. There is also a monthly view that works for those who are booking appointments well in advance. The downside to which view point you want for yourself is that the more of the month you see at one glance the less room you have to write details in.

If you run your own business, having a paper agenda makes it easier for when you are audited. You won’t have to keep downloading and printing off your schedule for your records each year.  https://serenityorganizingsolutions.ca/still-use-paper-day-planner/

We live in an electronic world and using your phone’s calendar or an app. makes it easy to use on all your systems; your phone, tablet or laptop. Electronic calendars sync up and keep you updated at all times. Another great feature is you can set reminders for yourself before a meeting so you have time to prep and no chance of getting busy and lose track of time and miss the meeting. The downside to electronic calendars is that it is hard to see what you have scheduled for the week or month at a glance. You can see when a certain date has nothing schedules but if something is schedules on a day you have to open that particular day to see what times are available to set up a meeting. It is easier to carry but takes more time and effort than a paper agenda.

What is your favorite medium for scheduling and why?

Any neat features on your electronic calendar you want to share with others?
