What to post on your Facebook Personal Timeline

Since Facebook states that we cannot use our Personal Timelines for commercial use, many people are unsure of what they should post to bring visibility to their business.

The goal here is to be talking about all the elements that make up your business, where you are going, what training you are taking, who you are working with, where you are speaking, what deliveries you receive; all elements that ultimately indirectly sell you and your business.  This is a great way to showcase everything that you do to enhance your business, enhance what you offer your clients, the knowledge you have, what you are learning to improve on your business.

I have put together some examples to help you think about how you can showcase your business.

Excited to be one of the table speakers at the Rock Your Biz event.  My focus will be finding out where business owners are stuck and give them some tips on how to get past it.

Excited for another Zoom Facebook Training today, I love teaching!!

Tammy Hudgin -3

Look who I ran into at Rogers TV this morning!!  We were all guest speakers on the show!

P.S.  I would actually tag both of these ladies in the post which ultimately brings all of us more visibility.

IMG_20161020_093025047.jpg

Today was all about learning from Guest Speakers, building relationships and selling our businesses.

P.S.  I would tag each of them as well

IMG_20161013_173857

As you can see, I have inserted a variety of different elements that make up some of the things I do but also showcases some fun things, like the Trivia night as I was with other business owners.  At no point, did I directly sell anything, I am just showcasing what “Tammy” is up to.

I also do two main posts, one on Mondays and one on Fridays.

Mondays I focus on outlining my week, what is going to keep Tammy busy.

Capture

Fridays, I look back over my week and I review all the different success elements and I pick one to talk about.  I tell them why I feel that it was successful for me and also include some type of quote to support it.

Moving forward, I encourage you to sit down and make a list of all the activities that you do for building your business and determine what type of pictures you need to take (the more of you the better as people love seeing photos of us).

I hope this helps you to think a little differently about what you are posting on your personal timeline.

Frustrated with your results on Facebook?

As I talk to more and more business owners, I am hearing all the frustration with Facebook Business Pages.  The algorithms are just not your friend.

As a small business owner and entrepreneur, it can be tough to get the visibility you are looking for because you just don’t have the money to invest in Ads, or to hire a Social Media Manager for your business.  You work your Business Page but not seeing the results you were hoping for and you are ready to throw in the towel.

Don’t throw in the towel just yet!!

I have a friend, who I have known for quite a few years now, whom has tried to do a variety of direct sales businesses and never really had the success she was looking for.  No matter how much training she took, she just never got her business to a level of success, in her eyes.  One of the things that was very evident, was that she just didn’t have the passion, the love, for what she was trying to sell.  Fast forward to today and this lady is on FIRE!!  She decided that she wanted to love her body again and started on a weight loss and fitness journey.  We all watched her on her personal timeline share the journey with us and we all encouraged her, as well as being inspired by her.  During this journey, she participated in a program that would help her to continue losing weight BUT had a huge element of FUN involved.  She then decided to launch her own program “Walk 15 with Antonietta” and WOW, she is ROCKING it!!  Why??  She is sharing her journey, she is sharing her love for what she is doing, she is keeping us up to date on each step of the way, she is doing videos, she is doing visuals, she is selling HERSELF!!!  She started with one person joining her in the class to a class of 130 people!!!!  All people who have been inspired by her, NOT because of what she sells (a fitness style class that is all about FUN) but because she INSPIRES everyone!  Do you know that she hasn’t even been doing this for a year??  This all happened within 6 months!!  AND the 130 is just ONE class that she does (she has a few classes in different towns).  Be sure to check out her Facebook group HERE!!

Why did I tell you this story?

This was not about someone working her Business Page to death (she really doesn’t even work it to be honest), she focused on selling herself and her journey!!  By focusing on selling herself, it ultimately led to others selling her business for her!!  Imagine that??  You don’t have to do posts around selling, when your network does the selling for you!!

Take a step back, review what you have been doing, and look at what you can be doing.  Think about how you are going to use your personal timeline to grow (keep in mind, Facebook rules say that you can not use your personal timeline for commercial use, so you have to get creative), think about how you are going to take advantage of the different groups to sell yourself, think about what you are putting out on your Business Page to sell YOU!!

START focusing on SELLING you, I promise you will see a difference!!!

Competition……

Competition, does it exist?  Absolutely!  BUT how you deal with competition will make a huge difference in your business.

The Social Media space has a TON of people who offer the same services as me, yet they are different.  We all have our own unique qualities, our own thoughts on how things work, what is beneficial, what is not and of course, we are all different in how we deliver.

This means, that not everyone is going to be your client and when someone reaches out to you, you need to make sure you understand what makes up that business owner and their business, along with how you work/deliver.  You need to make a decision as to whether they are the right fit and if not, then recommend one of your competitors.

I have 3 Social Media people that I refer business to and they do the same.  We all know that we have something different to offer each business owner and sometimes, the other person could be the best fit for the client.

Embrace your competitors, find out who they are, their personalities, what they offer in regards to products/services and utilize this when someone reaches out to you.

What I love about competition is that it is not just about someone doing the same business as you.  Competition comes in many forms and usually shows it’s ugly head when there is a jealousy component added in.  When we work hard, when we build our businesses, when we show success, sometimes that will lead to others believing you are their competitor.  When this competition arises, you have to remember that it is really not about you, it is the issue of the other person, and it has nothing to do with your business, it is a personal element.

I believe that when you reach this level of competition, that means that you have built success for yourself.  So congratulate yourself on achieving success, because if there are other business owners who do not like you, it is most likely because of this reason.

Go out there and create competition……

GUEST BLOGGER: 5 Methods to Power-up your Business through Behavioral Marketing By Kimberly Maceda

Imagine that you’re walking on the men’s section of a department store looking for a new suit to buy. Then, one attendant suddenly offers you a baby diaper on sale. How likely are you to grab that offer, very unlikely, right? You’ll most probably even be bewildered by the offer.

The situation above is comparative to digital ads that are not targeted correctly. But with behavioral marketing using  email marketing automation software, you won’t be giving content which is out of place. Instead, you will be providing product suggestions, promotions, and contents that are appropriately based on the users’ behavior. As an example, with the situation above, a proper offer will be ‘tips on choosing a great fitting suit’ or a coupon code.

Behavioral marketing gathers information using surfing and searches data, IPs and cookies. This collection of data is used to create an exhaustive user profile, and then the marketing content is could be perfectly tailored.

If done right, behavior-targeting could boost email open rates by 56.68%, and it will ultimately lead to a boost in your sales. Amazon, for example, uses behavior data for their recommendation algorithm; which drives 35% of their revenue.

Here Are a Few Behavioral Marketing Strategies You Must Implement

  1. Use transaction history to recommend products

As mentioned above, recommendation drives a lot of profit for the biggest e-commerce companies today by using upselling and cross-selling techniques.

Cross-selling is offering products that complement the original item. For example, you can cross-sell a tripod to a customer who bought a camera or socks for a user that ordered shoes. By showing what the consumer needs at the right time, you increase your chance to get higher revenue.

On the other hand, upselling is providing a better version of the item your client is currently interested in. Upsell examples can include a version upgrade, customization, and an extended service period.

Both upselling and cross-selling are great for increasing your profit. But you don’t have to choose between the two. Always use them simultaneously. Using behavioral data, your upsells and cross-sells will can be on point.

  1. Monitor your visitor’s action using URL tracking

URL tracking is one way to assess and recalibrate your marketing techniques. If you know what visitors are exactly clicking on before making a sale, you can allocate your resources effectively. It also allows you to remove unnecessary links on your website.

Using this technique, you can arrange marketing campaigns to boost referrals. A unique link is spread across different platforms on the web; ads, social forums, blogs, emails, or socials media. The links are then tracked to see the quality and quantity of traffic from all sources.

Every time a visitor clicks on the link, he or she will be redirected to your destination page. Data about the source and location are then collected.

  1. Use online behavior to provide personalized content

The competition for a viewer’s attention can be won through personalization. But you can’t possibly personalize if you do not know your audience. Aside from transaction history as mentioned in number one, there are other online behaviors you can monitor. For your email subscribers, you can track what content they are opening, when, and for how long.

Though conversion is the end goal of marketing, it isn’t all about sales. You need to establish trust and build relationships. To do this, you must provide valuable content in different forms. The content will resonate most with your users if you personalize them using online behavior data.

  1. Implement retargeting to increase sales

Statistically, only 2% of users convert at their first visit. So are you going to let those 98% slip through your fingers? Fortunately, you don’t have to. You can use retargeting also known as remarketing to reach out to the viewers who have expressed interest in your product but they might not be ready yet.

This technique is a cookie-based technology which places a pixel on your site. Each time someone visits your website, the pixel leaves an unnamed browser cookie. When the user leaves your site, the retargeting provider will serve ads related to the content or product you have been browsing. Retargeting works effectively and efficiently because you will only spend on viewers who have already exhibited interest in your brand.

  1. Send offers guided by demographic data

Demographic data is basic but it shouldn’t be overlooked. Demographic data is a crucial indicator of someone’s behavior, needs, and interests. This includes gender, location, age, ethnicity, and marital status.

With demographic targeting, you can reach a specific group with shared characteristics. It prevents wasted impressions. For example, if you have an e-commerce shop with assorted products, you will show products according to gender stereotypes and social conventions (man’s or woman’s wear). In today’s PC era, it might seem inappropriate but it does boost sales.

Conclusion

Behavioral marketing is a sophisticated way to market your business online. You can leverage behavioral marketing by using transaction history, URL tracking, providing personalized content, retargeting, and sending offers based on demographic data.

Stop wasting your marketing resources with generic ads and content. You have all the tools you need like email marketing automation software and other behavioral marketing tools to drive your business to the next level.

My Journey

11 years ago I started out using Facebook to build a direct sales business I was in and couldn’t believe how quickly I could grow that business.  It was kinda crazy to be honest, as I never believed that I could sit on a social site and talk to people and then have them become customers and/or new consultants.  People told me I was wasting my time, I was not doing anything productive.

I was playing in FB and trying to figure out how I could build a business, I mean why couldn’t this be about me finding customers, right?  I started creeping around FB to see what was available to me and noticed that there were all these “fan” pages that were for the different towns and cities.  I thought “why can’t I have a fan page too?”  So, I create a fan page for my direct sales business (A Finishing Touch).  Well, this was great BUT who the heck was going to see my fan page?

As, I continued to creep FB, I came upon the different groups however, these groups were really about bringing different hobbyist together.  Well, of course, I decided to create my own group called “Home Based Businesses”.  I loved the idea that I could bring different business owners together where we could network online.  Now, at this point, I had to laugh to myself because I didn’t know any other business owners (I came from the corporate world, then a stay-at-home mom, so didn’t really know what an entrepreneur was or even running my own business).  So, what I thought I would do is a post on the different City Fan Pages, calling all other business owners to join me in my group.  I created a post and copied and pasted it onto a TON of different Fan Pages and guess what happened?  I went into FB Jail lol, yep, I was considered a spammer, my first real FB lesson.

Fast forward a couple of years and I built a very successful group where we brought 5,000 business owners together to network, to learn, to be inspired (I had different questions and topics I would post every day to get people talking), to promote their business (I have since closed down the group).  It was really awesome and it led me to building a successful direct sales business until the doors of the company were closed 6 years later.

Throughout this journey, one of the things that was happening was the different business owners I was meeting, started reaching out and asking me to teach them what I was doing on FB to build my business.  Funny, as I had never really thought about what I was doing, I was just using my time on FB to talk to people.  I launched my FB business “I was a FB Nobody” 6 years ago.

I started out doing group training sessions, traveling from one city to another, and teaching business owners the importance of privacy, their news feed, their personal timeline, groups and of course, their business page.  I absolutely LOVED doing this, LOVED teaching others, LOVED watching them grow their business.

As I did more and more training sessions (I trained over 600 different business owners), and overwhelmed some owners, I was now receiving requests to manage their business pages for them.  My next step was now adding Business Page Management to my growing Facebook business.

I continued to grow from many different aspects, which allowed me to add more elements to my business, including speaking engagements (one of my all time favourite things to do).  It also taught me about understanding my true value, that I was worth something, that I had knowledge that people wanted to learn from, to absorb, to be mentored.

I decided to rebrand and launch my NEW business as Tammy Hudgin – Creating Your Presence.  This was so perfect as I had been creating my presence since I started working FB way back when.  It is ultimately what I have been teaching other business owners to do for themselves.

These past 6 years have seen me take different steps BUT always steps forward.  I continue to add more to what I can offer based on all my own personal experience, because if I don’t do the work myself, then how can I ask others to do it?

I have learned many things about myself and FINALLY give myself the credit that I deserve.  I have worked very hard to get where I am and can honestly say, that I am truly happy with where my business is.  I am always looking to grow and will continue to do so, because I am not ready to say “sorry I can’t take anymore clients.”

Personal timeline??

Are you utilizing your Facebook personal timeline to help increase your business?

Did you know that it’s against the Facebook Terms to use your personal account to represent something other than yourself (example: your business), and you could permanently lose access to your account if you don’t convert it to a Page?

What they are saying, is that your personal account must be your first and last name and not a business name.  They also state that you will not use your personal timeline primarily for your own commercial gain, and will use a Facebook Page for such purposes.

So, how are you going to use your personal timeline, with regards to the recent changes in our Business Page algorithms, to get you more visibility to your business?

  • Create strategic posts on your personal timeline that talk about your business BUT do not sell your business

Capture

  • Talk about your success, your goals, your accomplishments
    1. Throw your ego out the window.  When people are looking to work with someone, they are looking for successful people and they won’t know you are successful if you don’t talk about it
  • Post pictures of when you are out at events, workshops, conferences
    1. This shows that you are developing relationships, learning, working your business, growing
  • Share posts from your Business Page to your personal timeline
    1. Don’t do this everyday, start of with one share per week, then work it up BUT please don’t do it everyday (for me, I have spent 10 years building my personal timeline and will share a ton of business stuff, but I have earned it and I am okay if people choose to unfollow or unfriend me)
  • Share other Business Pages’ posts to your personal timeline to help them get more exposure
  • Change the privacy setting, on specific/strategic posts, to “public” so that the world can see them (personally I am not a fan of having all my posts set to public)
  • Post inspiration/motivational quotes
  • Showcase your personality through some of the posts, whether it is written or through a visual

These are only suggestions as I can’t tell you how they will work for your business.  What I can tell you, is that for me, it has brought a ton of business to me, along with my Business Page (YES, I still work my Business Page because I get stats, I get to do Sponsored Ads, I am a HUGE supporter of having a Business Page).

What I can tell you that will work, is CONSISTENCY.  Working the world of Facebook for you business, takes structures, takes consistency, takes being you, takes promoting your business.  You can’t just randomly do stuff, it just won’t work in bringing you to the level of success that you are looking for.

Here is to SUCCESS with growing your personal timeline.

CLICK HERE to request me as a friend 😉

Consistency!!

If you know me in person or even follow me around on Facebook, you will know that I talk about routines and consistency.  If we want to build a business, we have to always be doing things to bring our business attention.

You can’t just randomly work your business if you want to see growth, it is doing it every single day.  I know we are all busy, because we are the type of people who just keep on taking things on lol BUT you have to decide what your priorities are.

  • What must get done?
  • What am I good at?
  • How can I get my message out there?
  • Can I handle it or do I need to hire someone?

These are questions you need to ask yourself and seriously look at.  You have to determine where you can focus your time and COMMIT to it.

I have a TON of elements to my business and I schedule them into my calendar so they do get done.  I also will choose specific tasks that I can send to a VA to complete for me.  These are tasks that yes need to be done, but not by me.

Why is consistency so important?  Let me give you a couple of examples based on my stats:

These are my Facebook Stats for my Business Page within the last 7 days

page stats

What you see here is growth, which is regular for my business page and it is because I am consistent!  I post every day, Monday to Friday, one post (no need to do more); I share my posts into a variety of groups throughout the week; I mix up my content so I am always providing value.  I am consistent!

These are my stats for my website, for the month of January

web

So far this is my biggest month BUT for February, to date, I am sitting at 671 views.  Notice where most of my visibility is coming from?  Facebook!!!

If I can drive traffic to my website, based on what I am posting on Facebook, then it opens up the opportunity for people to look at what else I have to offer on my website.

The KEY for me here, is the blogging I do because I then do a post on my Facebook Business Page driving them to my website to read the blog (as you can see in the number 1 page listed for views).

I try to do a blog a week BUT when I am running out of content to write about, I reach out to other business owners (that compliment my business) and have them be Guest Bloggers.  The BONUS here is that it is a free service, brings visibility to both them and myself, and opens us up to potential new clients.

In summary, if you are doing what you need to do, consistently, then how does your business grow?  I am not saying that Social Media is what you need to be doing consistently BUT I would strongly encourage you to look at how it could potentially affect the growth of your business.

P.S.  Download my FREE Daily Checklist for Facebook, it just might help create consistency for you.

GUEST BLOGGER: Finding the work/life balance when starting a business

Creating a business from scratch is not easy. It takes a lot of drive, goal-setting and most importantly: TIME. When you’re seeing your business grow from the ground up, it makes you want to say yes to everything. Soon, however, all the hours in the day disappear, and you lose precious family time or even just personal leisure time.

At first, it might feel like you have unlimited stores of energy that you can dedicate to your business (the excitement is real!) but if you’re not careful, too much work will start to wear on you.

Here are some important tips to keep in mind while creating a work/life balance:

  1. Know When The Work Day is Over

We are so connected to our devices! If you’re starting a new business, it’s seems natural to be your own 24-hour network. But shutting things off for the night is essential. In order to be more productive in the future, it’s best to set a time where you switch off business and focus on winding down. Not only will this help you sleep better, it will give you an opportunity to build discipline in finding the work/life balance we all crave.

  1. What are Your Time-Wasters?

What do you do in the day that is productive towards your goals? It can be little things, like posting a brand-relevant message on Facebook, or sending out a few introductory emails. Social media is PIVOTAL for business (I know a thing or two about that…), but are you using it for too much leisure time? How much time do you spend scrolling down your Facebook feed during your precious “working hours”? Sometimes old habits die hard!

We all need to re-evaluate what is important in order to make sure our time is used to grow the business and spend quality time with people we love.

  1. Social Self Care is Very Important

Speaking of people we love: when you’re running a business, you often forget to take care of yourself! Simple things like diet and exercise are obvious – but what about social health? Don’t abandon your friends! Try your best to make plans and stick to them. It will help you stop focusing on work 24/7, and actually leave your office every now and then. Friends can be great supporters of your vision, by the way, and that support comes from building strong bonds.

  1. Make Small Achievable Steps

A brand new business is like having a new baby! You have to nurture it and give it plenty of attention. But you can’t do everything all at once and expect it to run smoothly. Are you spending 12 hours a day glued to the screen when you’re only aiming for 4? Quitting cold turkey will backfire. Try weaning yourself off, hour by hour, until you find the right workflow that fits for your blossoming company. You’ve probably heard the phrase “Work smarter, not harder.” Keep an eye out for efficient solutions that help you get your business off the ground without taking up all your time to do it.

There isn’t a formula for the perfect work/life balance. Everyone has different lifestyles, workflows and circumstances that create their own unique challenges. However, once you find that golden balance that works for you, your new business and your home life will thrive!

Reflection…..2017

I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect over the past year as 2017 brought many different elements from both personal and business sense.

I started the year with working towards finishing my 10 month Mastermind program that I invested in and can tell you that it was a HUGE impact with my business, from many levels.  I grew as a person, I developed more free downloads, changed my pricing, implemented some new packages and increased my client base.  I realized my value and that changed how I presented myself, how it allowed me to believe that I was the expert in Facebook.  It is amazing when you change your mindset as to what you can accomplish.

I also learned how to say “no” more and to know when I wasn’t the “right” fit for a client.  Sometimes, we have to realize that not everyone is a good fit and we have to release ourselves from it (but do recommend them to someone else).  I also embraced more of my competition and developed relationships with them so that when I wasn’t the right “fit”, I could refer them to another Social Media person.  We all have our own talents, our own ideas, our own personalities and together we can provide services to everyone who needs them.

I think one of my BIGGEST “learns” this year was that I was more than just a Facebook Trainer, I was a coach.  Never would I have thought that people would hire me to coach them regularly on completing their social media goals.  Being able to provide them with guidance, marketing ideas, strategy, training, inspiration and of course structure (that is one of my fortes), was something I had not realized I had become and it feels awesome!!

I had the opportunity to travel this past year, a trip to Italy and to Whistler.  Italy was a celebration for completing the Mastermind Program with the others who also participated.  It was an outstanding trip, I fell in LOVE with the Amalfi Coast, truly spectacular!!  Whistler was a family trip with myself, my daughter, my boyfriend and his daughter.  We did 5 hikes (and yes some were killers lol) and embraced the world surrounding the mountains, just unbelievable.

One of the biggest “personal” elements that happened this past year, was with my daughter.  Many don’t know, but as a family, we have been working with our daughter to help her battle anxiety and depression.  I had to adjust my work schedule to be here for her, to be her “rock”, to help her understand and to work at getting her the help she needed.  We are now on the right track, in the past 2 months, and she is seeking regular therapy and on meds.  She was not able to attend College, so we had to withdraw her and she was not able to hold down a job.  I decided to hire her to help me with some admin work, as she really wanted to feel as though she was doing something.  She has struggled with leaving the house, unless I was with her, and we are slowly working towards her getting her life back and not being afraid of the “outdoors”.  As a family, we have all come together (her father and brother as well) to help and support her and we believe that she is on the road to being the person she eagerly wants to be.

As I move into 2018, I have to admit to you that I have not set any goals.  For me, I take each day as it comes, develop some ideas as they come to my mind and continue to push myself to grow and achieve.  Every day, I do reflect on what I have done and what I need to do and then I do it.  It is part of who I am.  So, that means, that I can’t tell you what my goals will be this coming year but they will fall into place as I continue to grow.

I want to thank each one of you for always supporting me, for encouraging me, for pushing me, for believing in me.  It I didn’t have you, then how can I continue to grow my business and push myself towards success?

Let’s ROCK 2018!!!

Who is the person behind the face?
