When do you post on Facebook?

I have many people who ask me about when they should post on Facebook, how often, best times of day?

Ultimately, you have to decide what works best with your target market.  Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do they work full-time, part-time, or from home
  • Do they have young children, what ages?
  • Where do they live (thinking about time zones)
  • What are their hobbies/interests?  This will tell you when they could be away from the computer doing what they love.
  • What do my business page’s stats tell me?  (check under “insights”, then “posts” for times)

Once you know the answers to these questions, it can help you to determine when you should be posting on your business page.  Personally, for me, based on what I have been doing for the last 9/10 years, I have found that between 8-9 am work best for me.  It allows me to hit those who check their Facebook before they start their day BUT by sharing my posts into a variety of groups, it also allows me to capture more people throughout the day (when they are checking their Facebook based on their free time).  I find I get more visibility, more reach, when I work this time frame and it allows me to have the rest of my day to work on other elements of my business.

Now, how often should you post?  I ultimately can’t tell you how often but I can recommend.  First, do you want to drive your fan base away?  No, I didn’t think so.  With that in mind, I would recommend that you do not post more than 3 times per day (target 8-9 am, 4-5 pm and after 9 pm).  Personally, I only post once per day and found that it is sufficient and keeps people watching for my posts.  I don’t fill their news feed from my business page (from my personal profile, lol most definitely I can fill news feeds) and I make sure to provide a variety of posts so I am not always trying to get someone to buy my services.

There are many articles/studies out there on what we should be doing but you really have to test it out yourself.  You have to see what works best for your fan base, where you get the most activity, the most reach.

Start monitoring what is happening on your business page and determine what will work best for you and your fan base.
